MORE Daily Bulletin December 20, 2021

  • UFT members at Grace Dodge High School began a daily protest before school today. The school has reported many COVID cases and the members there are demanding that the school shut down before break and offer a remote option and increased testing after break.   • UFT members at Millennium Brooklyn High School protested outside their school this morning to protest the city’s failure to protect them during the pandemic. Incoming city council member Shahana Hanif joined their efforts. More than forty staff members from three different schools within the John Jay HS campus signed a letter calling for more testing.
  • UFT members at IS 230Q protested outside their school this morning. Their school has also seen an increase in positive COVID test results.
  • UFT members at Bard High School in Manhattan are planning a protest before school on Tuesday.
  • Teachers at PS363M are meeting today to plan ways to offer asynchronous instruction for students who need to remain home.
  • UFT members at MS839K and PS130K held a joint chapter meeting on zoom today.  They are co-located at the Parkside Educational Complex in District 15. Teachers expressed concerns over lack of staff testing with numerous breakthrough cases, confusing quarantine rules and difficulty with contact tracing with busy classrooms & shared spaces. They are organizing a picket before school Tuesday morning.
  • UFT members who are part of the Action Committee of the union chapter at a small high school in Elmhurst shared information with members about cases, suspected cases, testing, and their concerns about the current situation. 
  • The UFT Chapter at Bard High School in Queens collected a large number of signatures on its petition to cancel all non-essential in person activities. The administration agreed to comply.
  • MORE member and IS 228K UFT Delegate Madeline Borrelli told The Gothamist about the outbreak of COVID cases among both faculty and students at her school.
